Effective communication is a crucial part of great service delivery.

Communication is an act or process of using words, sounds, signs or behaviors to express or exchange information or to express your ideas, thoughts or feelings to someone else

Successful communication helps us better understand people and situations. It helps us overcome diversities, build trust and respect, and create conditions for sharing creative ideas and solving problems.

For effective communication, you should
– Actively listen to the patients
– Be aware of non verbal communication
– Ask questions
– Be clear and avoid ambiguous words
– Clarify and summarize at intervals to ensure understanding
– Be empathic
– Ensure feedback
– Develop trust and good rapport

You should avoid

– Judging the patient
– Distractions
– Use of technical language
– Unwarranted advice

Deliberate attempt to improve communication in our activities will ultimately improve our communication with patient
